Shipping Biological Materials to the ALS and NCXT

General

Shipping of hazardous materials or biological specimens is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT): see https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/ , Department of Agriculture (USDA) see: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/home/ and Center for Disease Control (CDC): see this CDC PDF. For more information, please review the following webpage: https://sites.google.com/lbl.gov/biological-safety/home .

For international shipments, additional regulations are required by CDC and/or USDA. You must review the regulations for both agency’s prior to shipping your samples.

Any specimen shipment to the ALS must be approved by the EH&S office at LBNL prior to shipment: see https://sites.google.com/lbl.gov/biological-safety/home/ . Take into account that additional time is required if your specimens are not recorded in any biosafety document that regulates the activity of the NCXT.
